Michael Jordan was fined $5,000 for game for wearing Air Jordan 1 "Black/Red" because they did not feature white, which was part of the official Chicago Bulls team colors. As a marketing tactic, Nike created the "Banned" campaign around these sneakers to launch and promote the Air Jordan line. The sneakers were released in 1994, 2011, 2013 and 2016. The 2011 pair featured an "X" on the heel, paying homage to the "Banned" moniker.
